Plenty of fakes reported on this site. Please share purchase details as it's impossible to tell what you have from the photos provided.

Do you see if there is any CoA (certificate of authenticity) and box? Please do follow other members' recommendations. I personally prefer buy such coins from a reputable dealer or directly from the Mint (I think in the case of New Zealand, it would be the central bank as they do not have a mint). (CCF, you may correct me on this point if I am in the wrong.) Good thing you did check with CCF before buying the coins. Good luck and welcome, Michelle1234!!

to the forum, Michelle. As others have pointed out, you should be wary as there are numerous fakes of the Disney coins. If the seller is from China, I wouldn't get it. Nothing against China, but that's where a lot of the fakes are coming from.

Just noticed this post now. It is a Chinese made counterfeit that is silver plated over alloy. Cost a couple of dollars from China. A true Disney coin is .999 silver from the Island Nation of Nuie, not New Zealand. Check the World counterfeit forum, there are dozens of these counterfeits reported.

Quote: A true Disney coin is .999 silver from the Island Nation of Nuie, not New Zealand. If that is the case, why does the coin in the photograph show it as being a New Zealand coin? Am I mistaken in thinking that coins should have displayed the word "Niue" on them? I would like to be enlightened on this matter. Thank you!

No, no, no. Listen. The Chinese counterfeit manufacturers have made these with a New Zealand obverse instead of the Niue obverse. Why did they do that? Who knows, but the New Zealand Mint has never issued a Disney themed coin for their own country (they do make them for Niue). This is how we know your coin is a counterfeit because it says "New Zealand" instead of "Niue". When the counterfeiters sell them, they admit they are just silver plated, but unscrupulous sellers stay silent or claim they are genuine silver. One seller of "creative", "varieties", "souvenir" or "handwork" coins says they also have "many kinds of Bullions Bar, including Canadian maple leaf silver/gold bullion, American buffalo bullion, Titanic Gold Bar, Soviet Emblem Gold Bar, Germany bullion, Umicore 1 Ounce Gold Bar, Sunshine Eagle Silver Bar, Pan American Silver Bar, Johnson Matthey Silver Bar, Northwest Territorial Mint Silver Bar, etc. Also we have varieties of souvenir coins, such as South Africa Krugerrand coin, American eagle coin, 911 World Trade Center Coin, Walking Liberty Silver Coin, Engelhard Prospector Silver Coin, Marilyn Monroe coin Australian Kangaroo & dragon & koala & Kookaburra coin, Russian coins, Vienna coins, etc. Also we have varieties of pure 5 grain/1gram/2.5gram/5gram silver coins/bars."

I found a new listing on ebay of a similar fake: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133736649625Merida coin with same fake New Zealand on the back. The queen on these fakes is also bigger and shows less detail in the hair. I already sent the counterfeit notice to ebay. I've been collecting disney princess coins on ebay recently, and all of my coins thankfully have the correct queen side with NIUE on them. I'm still a little paranoid though that maybe they're still fake somehow. How often are disney coins faked like this, and do they ever make them so that they look like the real thing but are made of copper on the inside or something?
