Looking for opinions for why this Indian Head weighs so much. Could it be stamped on the wrong planchet? Thanks for weighing in! Pardon the pun:)

Proper weight is 4.7g. My guess is the coin and scale could be off a little. Normal and within range IMO.

Yes, it's because the 1863 IHC is CuNi and should weigh 4.7g. I think you are comparing it to the 1864-1909 bronze coins that weigh 3.1g.

So, it's normal.

Spruett beat me to saying it, it is a copper nickel Indian Head cent, so it weighs more than your typical bronze ones.

Spec weight is 4.7 grams tolerance is +/- .26 grams so it is within spec.
