Coin rolled this nice 'apostrophe' Cud. Or is this considered a chip? Still learning to differentiate facts at the Cuds on coins site. *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

IMO it's not a Cud. I think it's some form of die scratch.

No it is a Die Cud. Note the rim? The Cud is taller than the rim. So a piece of this die has broken off the die. I'veseen this before on another small Cud I've found on the reverse. It is a small Cud, but a legit one. Not a damaged coin.

I agree with Coop. It's indeed a Cud. Congratulations on your find. :)

a Cud that took a hit and pushed the metal thinner onto the field?

If the chip was thick on the rim area and thinner on the field area, that would make the Cud thinner toward the field. Note the rim is also affected. So the chip broke away from that area as well. The same thing happened to my example above.

I'm not seeing it that way at all. The rim north of the lump is thinned down almost to field level. Reverse this, the rim offset would have to be FILLED UP, to reduce the rim there. This appears to be damage, the metal has been scraped , moved and retained in this manner. That's all rim metal piled up! Not a Cud at all!

In these pictures, it looks raised. I respectfully in my opinion don't agree that it's damage. Sorry for bring this topic back, but I think it deserves a second opinion since I think it's a Cud since it appears to be raised and not piled up!

No devices on the obverse area on this one to show weakness. Just above the date area. It is a reverse Cud. It seems that most Cuds are on the obverse. I've only two images of reverse Cuds. Now this one I will be adding to my files.
