Hello,

Every once in a while our government puts up coins and banknotes up for auction.

These gold coins are available but I am have trouble identifying them and putting a value on them. I apologize for the quality of the pictures but that is what they are providing.

Here are as they are described in the auction.

1) Is a half dollar California gold coin date is hard to see, but I will have to say 1852 liberty head. .900 gold, weight: 0.76g) in a lot with a 2014 Canadian $10 gold piece, starting at $700.

2) Is a Hungarian gold coin, 22k,weight: 7.4g) no date given. $300-starting bid

3) Is 3 x American gold coins (22k, weight: 22.8g) 1880. $800 starting bid.

First is almost certainly a fantasy.

Second is too small and blurry.

Third doesn't look gold and doesn't show the correct reverse, at least from the blurry photos.

Like my Granny always said, "Buy what you know or learn the hard way."

What do you mean by a fantasy. (Fake)

Can the government sell fakes and list them as authentic..

I agree with the reverse not matching but that is what they have posted.

A "fantasy" is not a genuine coin, but it isn't technically a "fake", since no genuine coins looked like that, with the bear on it.

And if the person compiling the list for the government doesn;t know any better, sure, the government can do that.

Makes sense, they are publicizing it at 22k, it should be 24k. Guess its a jewelers piece.

If you can believe the fantasy half dollar and a $10 1914 canada hoard gold coin sold for $1380,00 cad. Wow, my bid of $801 never had a chance.
