Looks legit; you can see the Blakesley effect opposite both clips.

Nice one in not bad condition for a 42 year old coin.

Quote: That 1975 double clip is a beauty. Now when I look at it, I also see 2 other rim areas that are slightly depressed as if they were almost clipped along with the 2 major clips. Can anyone also explain what took place with the other 2 depressed rim marks ?

The two other depressed areas are due to the Blakesley Effect.

For those who have not seen the Blakesley Effect it is a weakness on the opposite side of the clipped coin. This one the obverse shows the Blakesley clearly. I have circled the Effect in this photo.

This happens during the rim upset process, since the clipped area does not offer the equal pressure on both sides of the planchet required for a proper rim upset. Therefore, there is insufficient metal in that area during the strike to properly create the necessary detail.

Thanks SsuperDdave,...for the first time your explanation has me truly understanding what and why we see that slight depression ( Blakesley Effect ) opposite the clip or clips in this case..
