Would welcome your thoughts on this 98 LMC. Sharp strike, looks rusty, only see a little copper around the rims. Thanks.

There are still some copper plating evident on both sides, it looks like environmental damage, most likely by water.

If there is any remaining copper plating, then it's most likely due to environmental damage.

Be careful with this one.

It could very well be just a standard coin with a thin zinc plating.

It looks like there is some evidence of the standard copper plating under the zinc surface.

Thank you for the further insights. Found this cent in a roll I received from a co-worker. She had rolled the cents years ago. I got six rolls from her and based on distribution, I'd say they were rolled in 1999 or 2000 (latest coins found and most in MS.) It's a weird coin. There are "flecks" of copper here and there. The coin is grey colored and the strike is very sharp. At first I was wondering if the copper plating may have somehow come off the coin, but I figured the devices would have been reduced to some extent if that happened. Surface is rough like sandpaper. I'm going to weigh it when I get to work tomorrow.

Edited to correct spelling and to add info

Agree environmental damage is the likely culprit.

Thanks, Frog.

By the way - to the Moderators:

I accidentally hit the "report post" link once again. This happens when I'm scrolling up or down on my phone. Will try to avoid in the future. Sorry.
