In almost every auction of certified coins I have seen on ebay, the ICCS/PCGS certification number on the package is visible in photos.
1) Should these numbers be hidden? Or should they be visible? In almost every auction I have seen they are visible, though I have seen one auction today where the certification number is cut out.
2) Could these coins be stolen?
3) How can a user tell if the items being sold are stolen/fake (assuming they know the number)? Is there a reference list of ICCS/PCGS, etc users can consult, or a representative they can call?

This seller who cut out the number has a high rating, though I have learned from other users that this does not always mean they can be trusted.

See the images for yourself: http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages...0,0&format=0

The coin looks like it is out and on top of the plastic holder (Doesn't that void the certification, assuming it was certified in that package)? The ICCS page is also shown, and it also appears to be out of the holder.

I see no reason for a seller to hide the certification number.Unless the seller is worried about someone plagiarizing their pictures to use in their own auction (which has happened to me).Ebay asks you to list the certification number when listing a coin.It lets the buyer check with PCGS or NGC to make sure the coin is authentic.

You might want to just ask the seller why they have hidden the number.

I happened to be searching for coins to purchase and came accross one with my pictures on the auction. Just a lucky catch. I contacted the seller and inquired as to what they thought they were pulling using my pictures for there auction.

There response was, they had a coin of the same year & grade and my pictures were much better than theirs and that they thought it would be ok to use my pictures.

I told them to pull the pictures off & I would be contacting ebay security immedently.

They did pull the pictures and put their own pictures up,so maybe it was just stupidy or an actual con. The problem is if another bidder/buyer sees and recognizes the pictures as mine. Then they wonder if I'm playing some kind of game.

I think ebay also requires you to show the certification number for those coins. Personally the only reason I could think of someone trying to hide the cert number is if they're afraid that someone will steal it for their registry.

Amazon99,
At this time ebay does not require you to list the cert number but they now provide a box in the listing where you can list it.In time it will probably become mandatory.
