This is one of my favorite modern medal sets. I had the set on my watch list for years until I found one at an attractive price. It was issued by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) as part of its commemorative coins and medals program for the Australian Bicentennial back in 1998.

Here are three of the silver medals from the six-piece set (the other three will have to wait until tomorrow!).

1988 Australia Bicentennial Silver Medal: Common Reverse

The medals share a common reverse design, the logo of the Australian Bicentennial Authority encircled by a commemorative inscription and a pair of branches from the wattle tree.

The six medals in the set trace Australian history from its pre-British days to the present.

1. 1988 Australia Bicentennial Silver Medal: The Aboriginals

2. 1988 Australia Bicentennial Silver Medal: British Settlement

3. 1988 Australia Bicentennial Silver Medal: Explorers - Pioneers

Each of the sterling silver medallions is 50.0 mm in diameter and 4.00 mm thick. The weight of each is 71 grams, which equates to about 2.11 troy ounces (a total of ~12.66 troy ounces of silver in the set). All of the medallions are struck in proof.

2017 OFFICIAL TRUMP INAUGURAL MEDAL
OF THE OHIO REPUBLICAN PARTY
70mm. Bronze. Medalcraft Mint

A-Continuing-Thread-~-Post-Your-Tokens,-Medals,-Exonumia-Acquisitions

(Medalcraft Mint acquired "Medallic Art and Mint", formerly two companies: Medallic Art Company and Northwest Territorial Mint. Medalcraft Mint is the largest private mint in all North America.)

Housed in its original presentation box with wooden stand. Obverse with a high relief front facing bust of President Trump with just a hint of a smile. His name, DONALD J. TRUMP is inscribed above. The reverse legend reads: FORTY-FIFTH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA INAUGURATED JANUARY 20, 2017 around a representation of the American eagle as it appears on the Presidential Seal.
The edge is inscribed MEDALCRAFT MINT at 12:00 and OHIO OIM 2017 at 6:00.

This medal was commissioned by the Ohio Republican Party. The Trump obverse was chosen from a selection of obverse designs commissioned by Medalcraft for submission to the Official Inaugural Committee as its official medal. However, due to the indecision of the Trump Inaugural Committee, the Ohio party was given its choice of all of the Medalcraft designs. We have seen each of Medalcraft's Trump portraits and, in our opinion, this is the best of the lot. Peer Hansen, who crafted this design.

About 500 of these medals were struck for distribution to various VIPs attending the inauguration in Washington. Those remaining medals were made available to collectors. (Like me!) I'm a VIP!

This is not a commemorative medal that could be simply purchased when issued. These US mint struck medals were personally awarded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower or gifted by his direction at the 1960 Paris Summit during May 1960.

Classified as a Presidential Numismatic Artifact (PNA) since they were manufactured by the US Mint specifically for President Eisenhower's use, awarded/gifted by President Eisenhower, and is connected to one of the most trying times (U-2 incident) of the Cold War in US history.

A great number of these medals were destroyed after the collapse of the 1960 Paris Summit.

President McKinley arrived just on time to the Temple of Music at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo New York on September 6, 1901.
The pipe organ began to play "The Star-Spangled Banner" as McKinley ordered the doors open to admit those who had waited to greet him. The police let them in, and McKinley prepared to perform his "favorite part of the job".
An experienced politician, McKinley could shake hands with 50 people per minute, gripping their hands first so as to both guide them past him quickly and prevent his fingers from being squeezed.
The procession of citizens shaking hands with their President was interrupted when 12-year-old Myrtle Ledger of Spring Brook, New York, who was accompanied by her mother, asked McKinley for the red carnation he always wore on his lapel. The President gave it to her, then resumed work without his trademark good-luck piece.
The usual rule that those who approached the President must do so with their hands open and empty was not being enforced, perhaps due to the heat of the day, as several people were using handkerchiefs to wipe their brows; the man who followed the swarthy individual had his right hand wrapped in one, as if injured.
Seeing this, McKinley reached for his left hand instead. As the two men's hands touched at 4:07 pm, Czolgosz shot McKinley twice in the abdomen with a .32 Iver Johnson revolver concealed under the handkerchief.
President William McKinley died on September 14, 1901 as a result of initial injury and subsequent infection.
