Most of my acquisitions are not of great interest to the majority of the CCF, but they are to me. This token, although only an R2, was not pictured on tokencatalog so I remedied the situation.
From Crawford & Farber, Louisiana Trade Tokens, 2nd Ed.: "This general store, located on Louisiana Avenue, closed in the late 1980s after a century of operation."
The economy of Rayne, LA (2020 pop. = 7326) is based on rice agriculture, but their nickname is "The Frog Capital of the World", as bullfrogs thrive in rice fields (the moniker "Rice Capital of America" had already been taken by nearby and larger Crowley, LA). The main cultural event is the Frog Festival, held on Mother's Day Weekend. Cajun music and food are the main attractions. This year's festival also featured (among many other events) a Frog Derby, a Frog Racing and Jumping Contest, the Visiting Queen Frog Sauce Piquante Eating Contest (all festivals here have royalty!), and a Frog Leg Etiquette Eating Contest.
