As long as I can find .925 at close to spot with themes like these that I don't have one of yet. I am going to stack them away. There are some blah ones, but there are some good ones out there too.

Love the Iwo Jima medal TNG.

1st U.S.V. Cavalry Regiment Rough Riders Medal ~ Teddy Roosevelt.
On the obverse is a portrait of Teddy Roosevelt, who was named Colonel of the Rough Riders by Pres. Mckinley.
In 1898 the Rough Riders staged in Tampa, Florida prior to departure for war in Cuba.

Today the Rough Riders is a social and service organization, which was founded in Tampa in 1978.
The reverse side of this token shows the landmark minarets of Tampa.
The minarets were originally a feature of the Tampa Bay Hotel, which was a 500+ room resort hotel opened in 1891 by Henry B. Plant near the terminus of his rail line.

Today the minarets along with the Henry B. Plant Museum are a part of the University of Tampa's campus scene.

The medal measures about 1 1/2" in diameter and appears to made of aluminum.

1898 Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition HK-283 So-called Dollar

A long awaited issue I had finally captured.
1898 Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition medal. It is referenced as the "Official Medal" and is listed as HK-283 in the Hibler-Kappen Catalog of So-Called Dollars, 2nd Edition. It was struck in Brass, has a diameter of 34mm, and a Rarity of R-4.

The Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition was a world's fair held in Omaha, Nebraska from June 1 to November 1 of 1898. Its goal was to showcase the development of the entire West, stretching from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast. The Indian Congress was held concurrently. Over 2.6 million people came to Omaha to view the 4,062 exhibits during the five months of the Exposition.
During the Expo, on August 31, 1898, the committee declared "Cody Day" in honor of Buffalo Bill Cody. Cody brought his "world-famous" Wild West Show back to the Omaha Driving Park where it was formally founded several years earlier.
October 12 was "President's Day" at the Expo and featured a speech by President William McKinley focused on international affairs and the necessity of not being isolationist.

The total attendance was 2,613,508, and the total receipts were $1,924,077.
The following year after the Expo some members of its managing committee decided to host another Expo-type event, which became the Great American Exposition in summer 1899.

This is an image of one of 9 US stamps commemorating the Trans-Mississippi Exposition. It shows a similar buffalo hunt as the reverse of the medal depicts.
I had a large collection of early stamps at one time, including issues of this series and complete and partial sheets.
I sold them all. I regret not keeping a few, although I was not so thrilled with stamp collecting at the time and money seemed more attractive to me. I really threw in the towel when my doggie "Wheezy" had one of this series stuck to her fur while I was sorting stamps. It was the "Farming in the West" issue stamp. She came in from outside where it was drizzling rain and it must have been on the floor where she lay down. LOL
