TNG, thank you for that info on the Franklin Mint moon medal.
Your informative writing here is one of the things that has inspired my interest in learning about medals.
Unfortunately, I only own two. But one of those two, coincidentally enough, is this exact one.

Whaaaaat! Another Teddy Roosevelt medal!  . when it sells that close to bullion, I gotta have it. I have quite a few Theodore Roosevelt medals. Chase Commemorative Society issue No 8 in the 1st set of 10 medals from 1966.  Theodore RooseveltAbout .88 troy oz .925 Sterling Silver and 1.5 inches in diameter. It comes in a Capital Plastic-like snap close, square, hard holder as that was how these were issued along with a plate. ( I do not have this plate unless it shows up with the medal ) |

'Longing for peace' Jeton from the Spanish Netherlands Dugniolle 4040 the obverse shows king Philip IV of Spain on horseback the reverse two hands shaking a peace agreement (still years away) around a Mercurius staff and ears of corn; the legend is PAX QVERITVR ARMIS  The stakes of the Franco-Spanish War (1635-1659) was dominion over Europe. France, Spain and the Dutch Republic were the main contestants. The superpower Spain was gradually losing influence, whereas the influence of France and the Dutch Republic was expanding. The 17 century is called Grand Siècle in France and Gouden Eeuw in Holland. In 1651 the sentiment of the Spanish Netherlands, still at war with the Dutch Republic and with France, was a longing for peace. It took many years for this longing to become reality. |
