 Man Sues Treasury Secretary, Wants More Presidential $1 Coins
A Florida man has sued U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson with the goal of recognizing 10 men he says were president before George Washington. He wants Paulson to add these men into the Presidential $1 coin series. Stanley L. Klos of Palm Beach, Florida would like everyone to know and recognize the men who were Presidents of the United States in Congress Assembled--leaders after the Articles of Confederation were adopted in March of 1781 and prior to Washington's presidency in 1789. The men Klos speaks of are Samuel Huntington, Thomas McKean, John Hanson, Elias Boudinot, Thomas Mifflin, Richard Henry Lee, John Hancock, Nathanial Gorham, Arthur St. Clair and Cyrus Griffin. Neither do I. It was a Congress authorized by the US Constitution that passed legislation to honour Presidents elected under the same Constitution. IMHO, Presidents of the United States in Congress Assembled were nowhere near the same in power or prestige as the Presidents of the United States as defined by the US Constitution.

See these Presidential dollars are a problem! I doubt this one is going to go far, but I wonder an Arthur St. Clair coin would look like...A part of me also thinks this was done to promote his book. |

I did too. I wasn't happy about it then either. He was better than Gore or Kerry, but far from my ideal pick.
I don't understand the Dems at all. They get elections gift wrapped for them, and still lose. That takes talent.
Kerry/Edwards was the most liberal ticket in history of the country. It still almost beat Bush because people dislike him so. The Dems must have sat down and said... what is the one person we can pick and still lose.
Obama might win over McCain, but I think Clinton would have been a better choice for them. Obama isn't going to win red states (to liberal), but McCain is beating him in some blue states like WVA. General Polls don't matter...it is all about carrying states. Winning by 10% in Cali doesn't make up for losing normal blue states by small margins... assuming you don't steal some red states.
I dislike McCain, but I just dont see many swing votes going to Obama.

He has a point though...sort of. These men were leaders of the government, but just not the current government. The Consitution created an entirely new system of government than the we previously had. Maybe the men are deserving of being honored, but not in this program. --gayr Edited by GFR3

Bush was still a better choice than the others. I wish that weren't true but if the Dem's were serious about winning an election they would stop pandering to their ultra liberal base and nominate a moderate. I like McCain. He's got his faults but he's also got a lot I like. He served his country well and he's got the scars to prove it. He's not afraid to turn his back on his party to do whats right for the country. He's not afraid to put his name on a piece of legislation and go out and defend why he did so. He tries to find a balance between the 2 parties and get things done. He tried his best to get a lot of the money out of politics, which is the main problem with our political system.
That said, I'll save more of my rant for a political board, this guy is just trying to get his name out there. Being the chief executive of the country is a lot different than being selected President of Congress. Whose duties included running the meetings of Congress and was in charge when congress was not in session, thats a lot different than the duties the President has. These guys should be honored though and too few people know anything about them. I'm sure the mint will come up with some type of series for these patriots.

I too will take my political discussions elsewhere, but I will point out that it always makes me chuckle when people admit to their mistakes and then think that somehow things will be made better by choosing the alternative that is most like the mistake they already made.

Half, Ericnh is correct. The mistakes you have made in the past do not mean that someone similar in politics could not be the best choice among those available. The Republican party has thrown out the weakest candidate possible and still won. Left of liberal will never carry the fly-over states. Independent voters will not stray far from the middle. A landslide in Cal and the northeast does not carry the day.
Now, Obama does not necessarily need the swing vote. Black Americans are registering and voting as never before. The real key will be the womans vote. If they swing in numbers to him, he wins. And, that may be exactly what this country needs. Old guard politics have failed.
