i fonud this 1972d Washington quarter last nite ,,, and I think its a doubled die obverse ..what the experts see ?

Another case of Machine Doubling. A doubled die would be enlarged and raised from the field. The areas you are looking at are flat. (indicating damage after the coin was struck)

What you see on the LIBERTY devices is damage caused by rolling machine, has traveled in circular fashion across the devices and evidence of MD on LIBERTY coupled with numerous contact marks.

Rolling Machine Damage and MD. Spendable. MD reduces the devices and is flat and shelflike.

Nonetheless, if shelves were aligned alike what we can see on the L OF LIBERTY's pic, it would fall out.
