I have been racking my brain about why this cent looks different and even sounds different when given the "ring" test, actually it has a nice ring to it lol. But I'm thinking it has to be of a different metal? Copper Lincoln Cents didn't have a layer like clad does right? Please help my tortured brain! I have took a pic and put it beside a 1977 D Cent for comparison.

Just toning and/or corrosion from exposure to the environment, that is all.

Just what it has been exposed too. Handling by people with different pH factors, heat, soda?, washing machine pocket find?

I have a bunch of coins that I started collecting back in the late 80's and I been throwing them in a 5 gal plastic jug for years. I just recently took an interest in really checking out my collection :). Not for sure what it was exposed to, all I know is that it looks almost like tarnished brass and it has a very distinctive ring when dropped on the counter.
