my grandfather died about 3 years ago and my parents are just now cleaning out boxes of papers. they found this old looking book with coin dates and prices from the 40's. looking at the prices, I wish I was old. $14 for ten dollar eagles! and a 1893S dollar for $40

Very cool. Is it a RedBook? If so they're collectable and it might be worth something. I always wanted to buy an old price guide.

Give it some time. Someday you'll likely wish you were young.

Maybe today's prices will seem like bargains and you'll wish you had bought more coins "when you were young."

Possibly one of Mehl's Star Rare Coin guides.

Yep only a weeks wages.

Just three weeks wages. Not bad for a series that wasn't popular or widely collected at the time.

Exactly. Take a look at some coins that cost one to three weeks wages today, then 60 years from now take a look at them again and see how much they cost.

In short, if you can't afford them today, you probably wouldn't have been able to afford them sixty years ago either.
