so I finally found a Shield nickel for the right price, $19. Here are some pics from my ebay purchase. You'll notice that there is some corrosion on the back between c and e. Other than that, the coin looks pretty good to me with some interesting toning that I'm fond of. I'm actively(or should I say, addictively) filling my Dansco 70/70 book with coins, and a VF+ grade requirement. I think this makes the cut. My only other one grades AG-3... It definitely is of higher grade, XF or so, but those surfaces are what the services would call "environmentally damaged". Personally, I would have held out for a lower grade one without any problems, or saved a few extra bucks for a problem-free XF.

I'm with Prethen on this one. If you would spend an addition $20 you could have gotten a problem free one off ebay.

I think I gave 30 bucks for mine in my dansco7070 and it was graded by ANACS as AU-58 and it was a 1867 also

Yeah, I understand it is a problem coin. I really liked the eye appeal of this one, which is why I bought it(and my taste differs from the general pop).

Wow, you got a great deal Bryan? By recent prices, the 1967 no rays nickel in that grade is going for $80-$120 or so based on heritage auction sales.. http://coins.ha.com/common/search_r...rays&x=0&y=0Even cleaned/problem AU ones are going for around $50-$60. I have been admirer of your type set for a while now, and have probably looked at your page at least 10 times...Very impressive! Mine won't be nearly that nice, but it will be UNIQUE!(just like everyone elses..) :-P I have a few really good ones that are of a series I enjoy.

I would have never thought this little album would be so hard to complete, I probably have about 9000 dollars in my album and its still not finished, but when it is every coin will be problem free and be in atleast AU-50 grade

Unfortunately, you'll likely change your tune on this once you attempt to sell. After one or two times trying to do that with different coins with problems and you'll discover why problem coins can be quite the bane for collectors. What you perceive as eye appeal is actually damage. Sorry, if this appears harsh. I'm not trying to be.

When I sell(if ever), i'll probably break even or take a loss. It fills the hole and looks good to me for now.

Johnny's got a good eye..keep up the good work..that bit of corrosion looks like verdigris (oxidized copper) which might clean well...either way ENJOY OWNING IT!
