I just got a small lot of canadian cents I won on e-bay, and I have a 1876 that has many areas of raised metal on the portrait side, and a few on the other,my question is, is there a known rusted die from that year, or could they be post mint additions? here is a partial image thru my scope.

I'm just going by the photo, but since the raised lumps appear to be a different color, perhaps it's corrosion? Another possibility is impurities in the planchet that reacted over time and pushed up these deformities. Or--if it was a rusted die, there might be other coins with these lumps in the same position.

Yep, corrosion. Each of these raised spots is associated with a patch of discolouration. A rusty die wouldn't cause corrosion like that.

I thought that it was corrosion or maybe molten metal from a outside source, but was not sure because the color diff only shows up under magnification, laying on my desk it is much harder to see. and I tried to pick one spot off with a q-tip stem and it doesn't come off
