What's a safe way to open those sealed capsules containing RCM dollars from the '70's? I want to remove a couple of encapsulated coins for my Elizabeth II album. I'm reluctant to use brute force for fear of damaging the coins.

Thanks!

The capsules are snap tight holders. You should be able to wiggle them apart.

I can usually get my finger nail in the joint and wiggle it apart.
Rest in Peace

Generally you can wiggle (or twist the opposite halves) with your fingers and open. Lately I've been finding some capsules are loose and open when picking up the coin. Not sure if these originally came that way or gradually worked themselves loose.

In my experience with these capsules, many seem to have been glued together at some point, making them extremely difficult to open. Unfortunately, I don't have any tips to help to help with these. Has anyone else had this issue? If so what was your method of extraction?

Capsules for RAM proof coins are ultrasonically welded to seal them.
They HAVE to be broken to release the coin.

To do this, wrap the capsule in a rag, and very slowly squeeze in a vise, until the capsule is cracked.

This method can also be used to crack slabs.
