Found this in change. There is a round portion of the center that is more incuse and Smooth than the outer ring and the outer ring has a die flow sunburst effect . Any ideas what causes this to happen? First time I've seen it. I don't think it's any kind of error but possibly a die issue.

I haven't seen one like that before, either. I'll wait for the pros.

It must have something to do with VLDS.

Looks like some serious die flow wear.
Both sides have big empty fields.

That's my interpretation. The anomaly is plainly a feature of the die, especially considering the radical difference in metal flow characteristics inside and outside it. Looks like the die hardening process maybe got rushed or mismanaged, and as a result the die did not age evenly, but sank around that circle.

The design, with so little at the periphery and so much in the center, could have contributed to the look.

I would keep this coin because it's a great example of a VLDS and it's very cool.

Thank you all for your comments. I figured it was a die issue . Sorry it took me a while to get back I just got home from a 16 hour day. I'll stick it in a 2x2 and keep it in my weird coin category.
