What you see here is not a 2, but the beginning of a Die Chip. It's a nice one too.

It's certainly interesting but, I can't think of any reasonable explanation other than coincidental die chips.

Cant spell coincidental without coin. Almost makes you want to spend the few dollars and send it to wexler or wiles. Very nice pictures.

Excellent pics for sure. Agree with the die chip diagnosis.

This is an interesting coin.

I'd also like pics of the whole coin and maybe some pics of the word TRUST. Although it is likely a die chip, it reminds me of the 1944 doubled die, WDDO-022, that has an extra nine between the 2nd and 3rd digit.

Did an overlay of your 1952-S:

1952-S-Penny-Neep-Some-Help-With-This-One

Overlay for 1944 WDDO-022:
1952-S-Penny-Neep-Some-Help-With-This-One
1952-S-Penny-Neep-Some-Help-With-This-One

Both have same offset and rotation that would be caused by a Class V rotation from a pivot on the rim around 1:30. The extra nine on 1944 WDDO-022 is soft and round, unlike your 1952-S, which makes me lean towards die chip. 1944 WDDO-022 also has doubling on the word TRUST and a doubled eyelid which, I believe, resulted from the same hubbing as the extra nine. So, if your 1952-S is a doubled die, it should also have doubling on the eyelid and/or TRUST.

Maybe I'm crazy thinking about this having any possibility of being a doubled die, but it shares some similarities to the 1944 doubled die.

I'd like to see pics of TRUST and the eyelid.

Yeah, I'm not seeing any other doubling, so it is likely a die chip. I'd still hold onto it though, it's an interesting chip.
