That Trade dollar is a real beauty, CFM! ... would be at home at any top-tier collection ... ....Here's a coin that represents the 1600's Spanish economy's constant upheaval ... ...with the riches of the New World, Spain became wealthy beyond imagination, & yet, went broke over half-a-dozen times, as the sudden influx of gold & silver threw European economy into upheaval ... ...rather than devalue their silver & gold coinage, Spain attempted to control their inflation by revaluing their lesser copper coins, the maravedis ... ...owners of these coins had to pay a fee to have them stamped & revalued ... ...the kings de-valued the worth of these coins, re-valued, de-valued again & re-valued again, all in an effort to stabilize their economy ... ...The whole story is a study unto itself, & is worth reading about ... ...here's a poor little 8 maravedis that "went through the mill", only to re-emerge as it's original self ...struck in 1619, it was devalued in 1623, & revalued in 1641 ... ...from USA to Spain
