So as an update to Joseph's excellent map and list () from the previous weekend, it appears the number of countries we have yet to visit has continued to shrink:

North America:
Saint Pierre and Miquelon

Caribbean:
Antigua and Barbuda
Grenada
Sint Eustatius
Sint Maarten

Africa:
Benin
Burkina Faso
Côte d'Ivoire
Senegal

Oceania:
Cocos (Keeling) Islands

Maybe we can make our way to Africa next?

A coin from the Eastern Caribbean Group was posted 2018/02/08 at 7:23 PM, to represent Antigua and Barbuda. Was that not acceptable?

I have most of the remaining countries, but not Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Sint Eustatius, or Sint Maarten. My coin from Senegal is an older Dakar Chamber of Commerce token, and not one of the modern (expensive) NCLTs from Senegal itself. I do have something from the BES islands, which includes Sint Eustatius.

It should be. It was probably overlooked.

I apologize, I did not catch the coin posted on February 8th to represent Antigua and Barbuda. In posting an update, I was working off Joseph's list posted on the 3rd that he graciously took the time to put together. I am not sure how he counted each specific country that is part of a monetary union. For example, can we mark off Anguilla if someone posted an Eastern Caribbean dollar or can we only mark it off if someone posted a coin that is just minted specifically for Anguilla, such as the NCLT issued from 1968 to 1970? If it is the former, then we can check off Antigua and Barbuda from the coin posted on the 8th, but if it is the latter, we should wait.

I didn't mean to open a can of worms akin to the debates surrounding what constitutes OFEC, I just wanted to post an update for our fun game. Sorry for the distraction.

@Joseph7420, can you clarify your counting methods?

Your effort is still appreciated.

Of course!

With my counting, I only include coins that can be narrowed down to one specific country. So, in the case of Antigua and Barbuda, I would not count a coin from the East Caribbean Territories. The reason for that is simply because the East Caribbean made coins from eight or so different modern places, meaning the exact same coin could be used to represent each of them.

This is not the first time this happened. The first time we visited Kazakhstan was through the Soviet Union, but I only took Kazakhstan off the list when a coin specifically from that country was posted. Coins from the West African states have also been used to visit Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, and Senegal, but I have not counted any of those. I would also deal with places like Yugoslavia or Czechoslovakia the same way. Now, if there was a former country that was either completely located inside a current country, or had the same borders, I would count that. Take Sri Lanka, for example: we have visited that place three times, although each time may have been through Ceylon. In a document I made labelling how many times we have visited each country, I did no differentiate Ceylon from Sri Lanka because they have the same borders.

I hope that makes some sense.

-----

Although, looking at the map, I see I have never included Puerto Rico in any of the typed-out lists. They used their own coins at one point, and their location can be narrowed down to one island, so I should probably add that place.

@Joseph, thank you for the clarification and for keeping a running tab on this game! You're awesome! If my updated list is incorrect, please change it as necessary.

The last coin posted was from China, so we probably want to head either for the Cocos (Keeling) Islands if anyone has a coin from there or make our way to Africa. But then again, the fun of this game is we never know where we'll end up

No problem! Aside from it missing Puerto Rico (which is my fault for not including it), I would say your list is good!

One thought of mine was that the BES Islands could substitute for Sint Eustatius, but with Bonaire and Saba both being included as well, I am not so sure. Although, as far as I know, the BES Islands is not a place that has broken up, so maybe that place should be on the list rather than Sint Eustatius?

-----

I feel like getting to either Sint Eustatius or Sint Maarten would be extremely difficult, if not impossible. Just looking at those two links, it looks like one Numista member owns a coin from Sint Eustatius, and that is about it. Maybe both of those Sints should be taken off the list, due to the unlikely-ness of a member owning one?

Cocos Islands, on the other hand, does have some owners here on CCF. Between this thread and this thread, there are at least four members who own one (assuming they all still have them). One member has only two posts and has not been on since they joined, but maybe one of the other three will find this thread.
