Not sure if this is a strike through or some sort of planchet error. The rim also seems affected. What do you all think it is ? Ruling out PMD because the devices are not affected, but I could be wrong.

Die gouge. The letter isn't affected, you would see the material imprint of a strike through across T. Note yhe tiny notches on either side of the upright bar, this is because of void under the pressure to fully expand.

Meaning that is raised on the cent? sure looks like a gouge in the pictures. I see raised when it's gouged, I see gouged when it's raised. Great, I got coin dyslexia!!

The area is recessed so I don't think it is a Die Gouge

If that is recessed under the T then maybe a planchet error before the strike?

Sorry, that's waht I meant, things ani't firing off well tonight, it is a planchet gouge, prestrike error. Why the detail isn't affected.

Well it seems we all agree on a planchet error. Thank for the input folks. Had a feeling that's what it is but needed some reinforcement on the attribute.

And I bet that planchet gouge was alot bigger as the strike pulled the metal into the die and compacted it - I'd love to see what that planchet looked like before the strike!!
