Hi! I'm very new to coin collecting but always had a passion for it for many years so recently I've started the hobby. Here are photos of a 1999 "S" Kennedy half dollar from a proof set. Shown in the photos are what seems to be a rim split just on the top of letter "E" in Liberty above Kennedy's head. Then running down and over the "E" and center of Kennedy's head is a fine line of die errors which is wider at the top then tapers finely just past Kennedy's hair part. These photos where taken under a Luxo microscope that I believe to have 65x magnification although the errors and rim split can be seen with naked eye. Has anyone seen anything like this before on a proof coin? What type of error variety would this be considered? Thanks! |

A nice die crack. Unusual on proofs as quality control is supposed to catch them, but some do get out.

Thanks for the feedback and references! Any other Spiked Heads for 1999 S proof for Kennedy besides from 2002?
