I noticed something odd at the bottom of the steps. Is this an error or normal? I compared it to other 1992 D Jeffersons and this one is different.

NB4 it took a hit from a gum ball machine

Welcome to the "hit yo'head agin'da wall", "is it live or is it Memorex?" world of identifying MD( Machine Doubling). It is just that, MD. (check out Volume #1 below). When strikes happen, its like a hammer hitting a nail, it bounces a bit upon the nail...same with a coin press. Minute bounces happen causing a slighter second impression, through a slight shifting. This will reduce the size of the main impression, that is the key, size is ALWAYS reduced in MD.

Well just poo. I'm still gonna keep it with all the other "turned out to be nothing" guys.

Looking through coin rolls is starting to feel like a snipe hunt but I still enjoy it. The grocery is starting to get annoyed being asked for nickel rolls twice a week. I guess the next step is bank boxes.

As long as you are enjoying the hunt, it's worth it.

There is much to be found.

Perhaps your thinking of the '91DDR There's a couple, but one has a very cool marker,
gouges that needs no mag.

I know it has been over 4 years since you posted this link but hopefully you still have this nickel. Most likely it is not Machine Doubling and an actual DDR. I have seen around 4 different nickels with the exact same doubling. Unfortunately the answer to every question about if it is a doubled die gets the same two answers on every forum on the internet. It's post mint damage or it is Machine Doubling. I asked a a group for verification on a 1939 nickel with the "S" in TRUST that had a split serif if they thought it was a DDO and I got the standard Machine Doubling answer. I have looked at 1000's upon 1000's of coins and I got some nice examples of radical Machine Doubling. I even got a 1969-S that is machine doubled on the obverse just like the ones everyone tries to pass off as the real DDO on that coin. You have a DDR you should send it in to be attributed. Before Ken Potter passed he said " no two machine doubled coins will be the same" Well if that is the case then why have I seen (and easily looked up online) multiples of this same minted coin from different people two of them on this forum?

@two, rather than reanimating this long asleep thread, better would be to post an example in a new thread of a coin you believe was struck with a doubled die. There is a wealth of knowledge here if you keep an open mind rather than adopting the attitude of
