I'm wondering if anyone has more information on this coin.

My coin looks like this KM#24 on the NGC site.
https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...duid-1441130

but on the Numista site the KM#24 looks different.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces37906.html

Note, that the lettering on the reverse is written in full, whereas on the coin shown on the NGC site the lettering appears to be abbreviated.

Surely that can't both be KM#24. Is there 2 varieties?
Should they be KM#24.1 and KM#24.2
Any help would be appreciated.

No help from me but you have an interesting observation. On a quick search, the only site I see that has the whole worlds (ex: ALGARBIORUM) on the back of the 1 real is Numista. But that was a quick search. My Krause looks like your abbreviated one as best I can tell. The pic there is small but certainly looks abbreviated. When I have some more time I will dig deeper if no one has answered.

Added:
Steve when looking at the pic on Numista, the 1 on reverse in particular looks incuse. As well as some of the other devises, might just be my eyes. Then look at the coins shown on the right for sale. They are like the NGC one you said resembles yours.
So I wonder if this was a die set for a variety or pattern or the original intended coin that didn't occur that is being shown? It is clear with the full words on the reverse it gets a bit "busy" so perhaps it was reconsidered and words were abbreviated. I do not know and am simply speculating.
I am not sure I can give any other input here except to say you have a KM#24 and I know thanks to you now am interested some of the older Mozambique coins.

Thank you for your reply Scopru.
Your theory is very plausible. It certainly is
very busy with the words spelt out if full.

Happy hunting with the Mozambique coins. :)
