As part of a lot of world coins that I acquired at auction, one coin in a group of 15 Portugal 2 1/2 Escudos looked a bit odd as it (the 1977) was noticeably thicker than the others.

Krause (KM# 590) gives the composition as cupro-nickel
and weight as 3.5 g and the diameter but does not specify the thickness.

I've tabulated the year, condition, weight and thickness as follows:

Portugal-2-1/2-Escudos-1963-To-1985

All the coins in my small sample appear to have the same diameter.

Does anyone know what the official thickness was ?

Are these variations typical ?
