Hello,

Wanted to check if someone knows how this crack might have occurred to this coin as an error or wear and tear , not sure if this type of damage would be caused during the making of the coin or be damaged because it was under circulation. Here is the photo of the coin below.

It has the appearance of being a "struck-through" error, meaning there was foreign debris in between the planchet and die when it was struck, leaving the object's impression on the coin.

Can you post a pic of the reverse?

Thanks for the pic. Many times, simple damage can emulate errors. In this case, having a normal reverse is important in determining what happened. I don't see any corresponding marks on the reverse so, I think it may very well be a struck-through error. From the looks of it, probably struck through a rim burr.

If that is it, then it's cool (to me) and may have a slight premium but, it is not a valuable coin. I hope that helps. I am sure others will comment once they wake up.

Sorry I have one question does a die crack have any value on a coin?... Does it have to be certain die crack to make it worth something or die cracks are so common that worth and value of a coin is FV ... Thanks

To be clear, this is not a die crack but caused by debris being impressed onto the coin. Coins with struck-through errors generally have a greater premium than those with die cracks.

As far as die cracks, most are worth face value. Some, like those that run from rim to rim through the center, can add value because they are dramatic and more unusual.
