Seeing as it is unopened, would this have any kind of premium over an already-opened set?

No varieties, if I recall correctly. Except that one version had the gold coin.
I imagine there are coins in there, date's right for the set.

I am unfamiliar with this set and had seen something mentioned recently on the forum about a 1967 gold coin, so I did a quick ebay search just out of curiosity. Did this set come with coins unprotected by capsules or anything in the case?! Because that's what it looks like from the pictures I'm seeing

I believe it's a set like this:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1867-1967-C...AOSw1WJZNW6X

Its the one with the silver medallion, not the gold $20 coin.

I don't believe you will find any of the double struck coins in sets as most were custom ordered for a dealer, but I believe an upset dies 5 cent was recently found in a set, so I guess opening it is worth while.

I you have any doubts re the contents,
check it out with an X-Ray.

Ask the Post Office if they can provide this service, or advise who can.

If it has never been opened how can you be sure it's the silver medallion set?
Only the set with the gold coin contains specimen strike coins.
The silver medallion set contains PL coins which usually have ugly toning acquired from the case materials, not a very desirable item sight-unseen.

Thanks DBM.
I didn't know that about the silver sets; I would have assumed they, too, were specimen strikes.

Two of these came in a package from the RCM that my dad had stashed away.
One had a "G" stamped on it; I opened it up and it was the gold coin set.
Therefore I'm assuming this one, with an "S", is the silver edition...

Ok,that makes sense.
Been fifty years since I received mine and I can't remember if they were stamped or not.
But what if you are assuming your way out of $800 ? Or if it contains beautiful toners or bright and shinys.

The postage says 1968 how do you tell it's a 1967 set inside?

Cheers, Bill

The 1967 Gold and silver sets were distributed well into 1968 due to problems filling the heavy demands.
ALL sets have either a capital G or Capital S denoting the contents on the outer cardboard box.
There are NO double Struck , Diving Goose or other fantasy type errors known in these sets.
Those fantasy pieces all left the mint around the midnight hour in "Paint Cans " to a single Eastern Dealers destination.
As mentioned earlier, Rotated Five Cents , either upset Dies ( Coinage) or 90 degree rotation exist from these sets.
The Rotated Five Cents are also found in PL sets.

My received set looked just like that above photo. ($20 gold included)

The Canada Post just placed the box inside the open aluminum door back in 67..anyone could have picked it up as it sat there all day before opening that screen door.

Just got rid of my set and box back when the gold spiked to over $1900..

You have to open it to see which set that you have there.

The gold coin might have a super cameo on it also..
