I'm a Canadian thinking about crossing the border at Buffalo and buying some penny coin rolls from a US bank. I'm looking for Canadian pennies. Can anybody tell me how lucky I'll be, or what percentage of Canadian pennies might show up in US coins at this "border town"? Thanks!

There are lots of Canadian pennies in circulation in the states. I'm in Michigan so I know what your talking about. When I used to search boxes of rolls I was getting around 88-90 Canadian pennies in each box. But I'm sure it varies.

Unless the bank itself rolls its own the you're at the mercy of the distribution service that gathers ALL coins from a large area for redistribution. Up there, it may extend to Albany or further. I know here in central MO, find 2-3 a box all are 70-90 dates in tough shape.

I'm in ON on a boarder city and go over and buy rolls all the time and it's getting less and less for finding Canadians, may get 1 every 2 rolls and it will be circulated.

Do you have to have a US bank account to buy a box of coins from a US bank if you're a Canadian? Are certain banks easier to buy from than others?

Live in MI and often buy a brick, ($25.00 in cents). The same is happening to me as mcshilling said, Quote: it's getting less and less for finding Canadians, may get 1 every 2 rolls and it will be circulated. As for trying to exchange or buy rolls I would not think there would be a problem. BUT banks can be finicky.

And, so what are you finding in a $25.00 brick of pennies these days?

I have a US account but they won't sell me a box so I just get $10 or $15 at a time which I did today with .05 - .10 and quarters.

These pennies can be pretty filthy. Probably the filthiest of all the coins to collect. The amount of gunk and oxidation and damage is striking. But, the interesting thing is that the majority of my older "pure" copper pennies are in good shape - seems like its the newer material pennies, probably just copper coated ones, that are the most filthiest.

I ask for a Fed wrapped box with older coins. I once got 30 customer wrapped rolls. Never again. Each roll was turned obverse or reverse side up. Telling me I'm not the only one in this small town looking
