Hey All,
When you go to the bank and they give you coins back in clear wrap and all you see are beautiful shiny edges, do you bother opening the rolls and going through them if you do not need to add any modern coins to your collection? I got 30 yesterday and they all look to be 1990 or newer which I do not need at the moment. I am thinking its not worth my time and the cost of wrappers to go through them to more than likely not find anything worthwhile.
What are your thoughts?

You're probably right, Arvan. But that uncirculated Indian Head or early Jeff may be hiding inside! I'd HAVE to crack them open. But then, my bank has a sorting machine...

If I went through the trouble of getting the rolls and getting them home, you know darn well I am going to open them up and take a look.

Sorry, Arvan. Let me rephrase: Put the nickel rolls down and back away slowly. Then, pack them up carefully and send them to Bump and Jbuck...

Hope you find amazing stuff!
Edit: don't forget to look for variety and error coins, 2009s, westward journey, etc. There are cool things in the later vintages.

I am doing Canadian Nickels so the 2009's are not going to be a thing for me but I think I will seperate the coins out into years, and look for varieties that I can find online and see if I come up with anything. Otherwise I will blow through these and where is the fun in that right?

I was going to add, I would pass on them right at the teller. The American don't understand roll hunting in Canada. If you get those Gardaworld wraps, or the sulifane style wraps these hold nothing older than 2001 they have all been put through a machine and all the older coins have been sent off to the smelting pot.
our government is the biggest roll hunter, and the older coins are harder and harder to find.

are the Gardaworld ones the ones that look like they are vacuum sealed in a plastic wrap with the ends open? I have been finding tellers to be super hostile to wanting to get older wrapers or anything that has a paper or the old plastic folder over holders.
I never understood the hostility. I am pleasant, I am giving you a break from having to deal with angry client who want a ton of complicated transactions done. I would expect a refreshing "Its you! My favorite!" but no, I get hated on lol.

Sorry for the confusion. I should have noted where you are from. It's a shame that roll hunting is so bad north of the border.

Oftentimes you can see the dates on some of the enders... that's how I make my determination.
As for your issues with the tellers, some banks (and tellers within said banks) just don't like to deal with coins for whatever reason. I've run into a few of those banks down here - I just try to avoid them completely.
