I couldn't get close enough with my macro lense to show detail, so I had to try to take a picture through my loupe.

I have a 1987 D that has a seem in date and MM as well looks exactly like yours could not picture it like it looks but looks just like yours... I think it's Die Deterioration though

I don't see the extra thickness on yours Mrzllewellyn, but it does look like MD on both sides of the date, almost like your numbers are indented. (I'm an amateur though, so I could be way off)

I came back to see if anyone else had weighed in, and looked at yours again Mrzllewellyn, I see ghost images of your 9 and 7. Could that be plating shift from the strike?

Yeah there is split plating and ghosting and there is a line in the date and Mintmark I'll try and get better pics if I didn't throw it back when I found it lol

There's no doubling and it's not a Doubled Die. All I see is Die Deterioration from a worn die.
