Nice Nickel Find In A "junk Bucket."

Coconice Valued Member United States 54 Posts	Posted 12/16/2017 11:03 am I don't really think of any coins as junk, but I had a big container of mixed US and Canadian coins that didn't have much value. Jefferson nickels, Elizabeth II, George VI, and a few George V. Bunch of Wheat pennies. I gave it a closer look at pulled out a 1925 Canadian nickel. That's a George V with mintage of 200,050. By casual grading specs, it is just south of EF-40. It was a great find, and it made me happy. I don't know anybody who cares about a find like this, and I had to share with someone! I hadn't paid enough attention to my Canadian coins. I was shocked to find that some of my most valuable ones are Canadian 5 cent pieces, particularly the older silver ones. Time to take a closer look at more of my stuff! Report this Post to the Staff

Coconice Valued Member United States 54 Posts	Posted 12/16/2017 11:38 am It's better! I pulled out the rest of the Geroge V nickels just now. It seems to be a complete run. None of them are beautiful, but they're all between VG/F 10 and EF-45. There are both kinds of 1926 (Far and Near 6), and the Far variety is fairly valuable, and mine is around VF-20. Having both varieties makes it super easy to pick out near and far. I am struggling with the 1932, though. I have two of them, and the Near/Far 2 is not as obvious as the 6, at least to me. I just don't know if I have both, two nears or two fars. The smart bet is usually on two of the more common if I one cannot tell. Edited by Coconice 12/16/2017 11:39 am Report this Post to the Staff

The horizontal line is helpful, but I found another image that pointed out the distance between the 3 and the 2. In the low/bas version they are closer together, and I can distinguish this on my coins. Report this Post to the Staff

When I've done this before, I've shot them with my iPad which has a better camera and emailed them to myself. Then, I've resized and cropped the image to the way I want it and used the snipping tool. The snip makes a png which doesn't work here anymore. I swear it used to. It is not as easy to differentiate between the 26s with these pictures as I would like. And, I don't recall which 32 this is, but I feel this one is the common one - the near. Report this Post to the Staff
