Just found both of these. Where is his neck?!?! On the 1974 found a nice little die crack right around the last O in Monticello.

The neck looks like an over polished die and the O looks like a possible die clash remnant.

Is that a good thing? I couldn't find anything listed on the 1972D Jefferson for that kind of error.

What happened here is the die was very overpolished do to having to remove a heavy Die Clash. That's why his neck is missing and we like to this this error the "Floating Neck". Die Clashes happens when there's no Planchet in-between the die and the die strikes itself causing bad damage to the die. They use diamond paste to remove the Die Clash, but sometimes they can't remove all of it do to some of the Clash marks being too deep. Save it as it's collectable and it's a great example. :)

Awesome Errers and Varietys, thank you for the explanation. :) It definitely jumped out at me. LOL! I know of the 2014's but never heard of one this old.

You're welcome. I also made the explanation easy to understand as well. I like to give short, but easy to understand short explainations. The ones from 2014 are also very cool too, but I like yours the best. :)
