*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Hello , I am a new collector who inherited from his father , I am trying to do my best to grade and understand how coins collection work . My goal is to finish his collection or at least try because it could be very costly . I have this 1881 obv 1 coins that I think is in Vf-ef condition but there is an error on the I of gratia and on the I of Regina . Does anybody know how this error is called and if add any value to the coin . thank you Edited by zonerzz 12/20/2017 8:59 pm

Looks like OBV2 to me. Hairline and chin are the markers. Full pics of both sides would be very helpful here please.

Definitely need some better pictures to determine your "I" question. I 100% agree with DBM the chin, hairline and ear all clearly point to obv 2.

The bough and leaf side you refer to is the reverse of the coin. All 1881 dimes have RT1(Reverse Variety 1). What we are looking at is the obverse(the side with the head) which in this case is definitely Obverse 2, the more common of the 2 Obverse varieties for this year.
