I'm new here and to collecting..so hello to everyone and merry Christmas...found this in a bank roll..rebook lists it as a DDO...maybe type 2? I'm new to collecting and still a time telling the difference in mechanical and die errors...any help be great..thanks everyone and merry Christmas

Nope, that's Machine Doubling showing on the date. Machine Doubling always shows reduced devices, nevers enlarges the devices. On real Doubled Dies, they show enlarged devices, extra thickness, notching, and separation lines. You might want to read up on different types of doubling. Also remember on incuse devices, the opposite happens.
Incuse devices:
Doubled dies: reduced in size

Just the opposite happens on MD on incuse devices. The reason it's opposite is because the incuse devices on a die are raised. Thus the slightest die movement before or after the strike alters these sunken devices.

so in a real double die...would the devices be the same height..but only double with different degrees of separation...with usual telltale signs of notching?
