Hey guys, thanks for stopping by. I was looking around online and wanted to get some opinions on a cheap usb microscope! What I would like you to do is to attach pictures of some close up coin variety (preferably RPMs or designer initials), give me a link to where you bought the microscope and let me know how much you paid for the microscope. I am looking for one in the 25-50 dollar range. I dont want to get something that is pretty much like taking pictures with my iPhone through a magnifying glass. Thank you for all your help. You guys are amazing!!

Whatever model you get, make sure that the light source is adjustable. Mine isn't and I have wished many times it was. The shinier the coin, the worse it is...

Coppergold, Many on Amazon for $50 or so. Just make sure the software is compatable with your OS. Some of the cheaper ones only go to Win7 or won't cross to iOS. Mine has the solid upright. It came with a 6" but that didn't back off far enough to get a whole dollar size coin, without stranding on books and that garbage. I got a 5/8" brass rod from the hardware store, put the matching notches top and bottom (w/file)and it works great. With the addition of some cheap clipon LED lights and some practice works really well.

A hint, I put marks on the upright for specific shots, closeup-small coin-large coins, then just set the adjustment, save time.

This one is mine (no longer available). I often have to get the lens absurdly close to get the level of detail that I want, so lighting is important. And the colors are often way off. If you're looking only the RPMs or other details, it's fine. But for eye appeal, you could do much better.

All that aside, I don't use the included software. I plug this into my Chromebook and just do a screenshot of the image.
