These medals were issued in a bronze matte finish in the thousands. They were also struck in a proof copper finish, proof silver and proof gold. I passed on buying the gold ones a few years ago at a Bell auction, it was at the peak of gold prices. I was outbid on a silver proof a few years ago. I bought a proof copper one some time ago at a Nuphilex - it was not cheap (around $125). All proof strikes are scarce....
Therefore, when this gorgeous proof copy strike was posted on
ebay for a mere $25, I snapped it up within 10 minutes of it being listed... love, love, love the toning on this piece.
