Now that is one I relate to. I have the Utah State Quarter of same theme.

One of my favorite insulators (known as a CD 735 Mulford & Biddle) was used on that RR line. Pictures of the event and RR line show this type of insulator (and another type mounted under the crossarm) to have been used right there (Promontory Summit in Utah) at the meeting of the two engines. In fact the museum in Utah to commemorate the event has two plastic replicas of the CD735 on a pole outside.

Note the smooth inside of the pinhole. This piece was in use long before the invention of putting threads into insulator pinholes and using threaded pins to hold insulators in place on poles (1865).

That meant someone from the RR had to walk the line all throughout the years b/c contraction and expansion of the wires from changing temperatures caused threadless insulators to pop off their pins and ground the telegraph wire resulting in communication black outs.

I need to start looking for one of these cents now!

Thanksgiving Day historical card with counter stamped cent. . .

I have several of these counter stamps that have filtered my way over the years. They were all just the coin with nothing to reference what they were. I had thought that they were Thanksgiving related but now I have proof.

I have seen this before somewhere. Maybe when perusing them on ebay? I only have a couple I may have posted here before (long ago): a 1941 with anchor over the date, a Kennedy & Lincoln, and then my Kennedy and Lincoln halves. But this certain person I know on a certain coin forum has made it so I tend to browse them online every once in awhile!

Interesting history lesson here. thanks - also nice coin too. But it looks like it was handled a whole bunch, seeing all those over-lapping prints on it..

Gotcha! To me the lighting made it look like he had his right hand up in the air and I knew that cold not be b/c.
