I believe it was Ben. And while there are no turkeys on the coinage...there never has been a lack of turkeys in "places of power."

Shaking hands pressed LMC...

For the life of me I couldn't get a good picture. I think I'm just tired and grumpy.

Here we go. Different day and now longer grumpy. I noticed that the obverse still had some of the coin's details still in tact.

I just got a list from the gentleman who was selling off his collection of all the different pressed cents that a craftsman named Adam J. Cool had made dies for. All of the recent purchases I had made are on there. The list of different birds this gentleman had done is impressive.

11- Grouse
12- Quail
13- Woodcock
14- Duck (small)
14A- Duck (large)
15- Eagle
17- Pheasant
20- Turkey
21- Goose (small)
21A- Goose (large)
26- Dove
42- Two Ducks
44- Penguin

The one item on his list (of 108) was Earle's gafs.

My other hobby tells me this is one of a pair of a lineman's pole climbing gear known as a "gaf." One for each leg (proper leather straps also of course) and you are like a cat climbing a pole...

"Number 905- Lineman's climbing hook"

This list is a fascinating look into Adam J. Cool's life, hobbies and passions. There are 15 different firearms, the 13 birds previously listed, 10 Police shields, 9 Animals, and 7 fish among many miscellaneous.

He must have been from West Philadelphia. There is one listed as 90- High School W. Phila. (PA) as well as 3 others of High Schools in the area.

When I have more time I will type out the list if anyone is interested.

Thought I'd also share the beginning of the list. I believe it is from the mid 1970s. It has some interesting information on how the different dies were done...

The following list of die struck Lincoln Cents are now available at 60¢ each. The FISH-BIRDS-GUNS-ANIMALS are struck in beautiful hand carved steel dies. The finished striking is in rounded raised detail. All other dies are machine cut from hand carved master patterns.

This is great info! I love little bits of non-mainstream history.

I am being serious when I say I think you need to do some sort of a write up sharing your knowledge of counterstruck pennies. and these pressed ones. It's all a small bit of Americana that may otherwise be lost. I think it would make an interesting read. Look at how many pages this thread has gone!

Thanks for the kind words Earle. I think some sort of a book would be cool. Not quite sure I have that much knowledge to impart though.

As far as some knowledge I wish I had, I'd love to get ahold of a comprehensive list of all the counter stamped LMCs that Littleton put out over the years. I'm sure I have most of them but it's amazing sometimes what pops up online.

Maybe just do a short composition of what you do know? The gentleman you mention would be a good source for info to put into print.
