Hello Members,

I have this very interesting Roman As in my collection. With beautiful green patina. The strange thing is that the lyrics are in retrogade on the obverse. The S C is retro aswell as the lyrics alround. I haven't seen this one anywere... Does anyone happens to know this particulair one. They use strange dies if it is in retro because the reverse is just normal...

Interesting. I have heard that some imitations have been made with reversed dies, but it looks like the real deal.

Actually, the visible part of the inscription (not lyrics) on the reverse (not obverse) is not retrograde. It reads normally for the first 5 letters "PM TR P". Then it runs into the "IO" (from CONSECRATIO ?) Which might be retrograde depending upon the orientation of the rest of the text. However the letters "S" and "C" are NOT retrograde but are reversed. The awkwardness of this arrangement suggests that this coin, if ancient, was not officially made. I have not found anything like it listed in either of the primary major references (RIC and BMCRE).

First time I've seen this. Dyslexia comes to mind ;) But I agree, the coin look authentic.
