Meaning, it's lot bycatch but I don't intend to part with this one, if I can help it

Antoninus Pius AE Sestertius. AD 140-144.
ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P COS III, laureate head right
SALVS AVG S-C, Salus standing left by altar, holding sceptre and extending patera to serpent rising from altar.
RIC 635a; Cohen 710.

Finally-Bought-A-Sestertius

Not my first sestertius, as I've had plenty of ugly slugs come through ebay lots, but this is probably the first with enough detail to pin to a RIC number. Not a "gem" sestertius by far (lots of chips in the patina, plus an off-center and worn reverse) but I like it! Nice glossy green patina with some honest wear and tear.

That's an impressive example with a great looking patina. The flaws, which are certainly very minor, just give it character. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I thought about focusing on sestertii...coins very much like this almost seduced me. They are so appealing.

The surface on the obverse is awesome looking, not corroded as most I have seen.
The details on the reverse as well as the obverse is very sharp.

Overall very nice coin.

Thanks all!

And @Bob, I agree that I see the attraction, but good golly gosh it can he expensive to collect sestertii! Even with the flaws, this coin would likely fetch more than my flashy mint state Pius denarius, and Pius' sestertii are among the cheapest!
