VF20 looks about right. Cleaned for sure.
Why did you pick this up? Anything special about it that I'm not seeing?

I politely suggest that is quite pricy (60x face value) for a badly cleaned VF range Barber dime. Is there something I am missing in the photo that inspired such a purchase?
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

I actually do not think it is cleaned, but rather has some surface hairlines due to rub. VF-XF range, and $6 isn't that bad of a purchase. At that point, it's basically just a coin for enjoyment and not investment, right?

Distracting scratches on neck. Liberty looks good.

While it isn't necessary to know a collectors goals, if they have goals, the question of why you purchased this coin is a good one.
This barber is just plain bland.
I would suggest that having a 50-100 coin want list with each coin on that list having a purpose in completing a goal, no matter how abstract, will offer greater satisfaction and education than random purchases.

Thank you for your comments. The answer to why I bought any coin is always because I liked it enough to put money on the table. I graded the coin VF25 in my mind. I agree it has been lightly cleaned, but "badly cleaned" seems like an overstatement. The pictures are 1000x1000 pixels and blown up to the size of a small frisbee. I think it distorts the appearance of the scratches. When I zoom out to 30%, the coin appears the size of a silver dollar on my screen and I cannot see any of the hairlines. To me this is a very pleasing circulated and detailed example of a coin more than a hundred years old that I will enjoy, as I imagine life during World War I. I love coins and I love this coin. It was a bargain at $6. I was also struck by the comment that I had overpaid because the price I paid was 60x face value. This is still a silver dime which is not worth face value but at least its intrinsic silver value which is $1.225 today. I paid a premium of 3.9x intrinsic value which to me seemed reasonable for what it is.

I have to agree with above , but $6 is not going to hurt you . If you didn't need this coin for a set ,then I would recommend you choose your purchases' more wisely . The majority of us says your coin is cleaned . but again it's not a big deal unless it was a $100+ coin .

Thanks mox. I think this coin fits my collecting goals. The way I approach it different from yours. I think you determine what you want and then patiently look for it. I tend to look out into the landscape of what is out there and pick out the things I like. It is unstructured, but that is how I like collecting.

For $6 who gives a #hit? Just another one to add to the hoard the way I see it. The time NS spent having to explain his purchase probably cost him more than $6. Moving along.

Hey NS - you don't need to justify your collecting direction to me or anyone else.
Having seen some really nice coins from you, this one was just out of your normal range.
I think the only reason I commented to such a degree is I hate to see the "Its only $6" mentality. Each dollar spent on a so-so coin could have been used for better quality.

As always, I appreciate your comments mox. Folks asked why I bought it and I don't mind sharing my thoughts on it. This is a discussion forum and I derive a lot from the interactions here.
