When I was young I would get the modern commemorative silver coins but now I have them all and can only get the new ones each year. This en devour is more challenging as well as costly but for the past few years I have been adding these commemorative $5 gold pieces to my collection. As stated in previous posts these commemoratives are depressed in value and can be acquired for near melt if one is diligent in their search.

the 2001 w Capitol visitor center BU coin had a mintage of a mere 6,761 and was obtained for a small fraction of Red Book pricing from 2015.

When minted, it was the 2nd lowest mintage of the series. Only the 1997 Jackie Robinson was lower at the time with a mintage of 5674.

The 97 JR has since been eclipsed many times for the lowest mintage (the 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 coins are all lower mintages).

The current "honor" of low mintage in the series goes to last year's Boys Town $5 uncirculated coin with a last reported (12/24/2017) mintage of ONLY 2994. There was an end of year buying spurt for this coin with 25% of sales occurring in the last 3 weeks of sales at which time it became sold out and no longer available on 12/9/2017.
