Hi,
I'm new to the forum and hope I am posting this in the correct section. I've been collecting for a couple of years and like to pick up unique items when I see them. I came across a 10 oz walking liberty round with 5 State Quarters embedded in the back which I assume are gold plated. I've tried to find it online but have not been able to figure out where it came from and who made them. Can anyone identify it? Any idea if it's worth anything over spot price and if they are regular quarters or silver? The edge is stamped with what I think is a serial number and the front with a G but there are no other identifying marks. Thank for any assistance you can provide.

The Quarters are just clad quarters plated with 24kt gold. These kind of items were done by private issuers or mints. As a collectable, I've never seen one before. The US mint did issue gold plated quarters and platinum plated ones, but the rage was for private mints to gold plate them and issue in sets or as what you have. Franklin Mint, National Collectors Mint are two who do things like this, try contacting to find a match. It Probably isn't worth much over melt, but price is what someone may pay for items like these, $170 melt to $300 venture, your guess is as good as mine?

Where did you purchase this?

I've never seen one with 5 quarters stuck in the back.

Interesting piece. Does it fit into a capsule?

Without documentation it might be hard to sell without guaranteeing the silver content but still unique

Thanks for everyone's comments! I purchased it along with some morgans and a few other coins someone was selling online and it did come in a heavy plastic capsule that fits perfectly. It seems to be well made and the stamping is clean. The edge is polished down in a small section to allow for the stamping of the serial number. Seems to be well made overall. Please let me know if anyone has additional questions or information.

Is this a reputable company?

I can understand buying Morgan from "someone" online, but how did you conclude that the 10 oz silver piece is indeed 99.9+% silver? Especially, it has plated quarters stuck in the back.

Just trying to protect you from a false claim online. Knowledge and due diligence are important when buying items from unknown online seller.

If you can post a link, then we all can investigate, since the item is unique.

I really just took a chance on it based on the stamping and uniqueness of the coin. I'm going to bring it to a dealer I frequent to see if they have any information on it. Also, I just took it from the capsule and weighed it seperately. Total weight is approximately 278.4 grams. If I back out the 5 quarters at 5.67 grams each, I am left with 250 grams which I calculate to 8 oz. Hopefully I can verify that it is .999 as stamped but if not, it's a lesson learned.
Rest in Peace

One of the many reasons this forum exists is to provide the necessary knowledge for making wise choices. Most of us have many "coin T-shirts", we've been there ourselves. This is a very expensive "chance" to take, hope it is OK, be thankful tho if it isn't...wasn't gold!

Thanks. Definitely would not have taken the chance with gold. There was a little mix of items I bought, all silver and everything else checked out from what I can tell. This is the only item I can't seem to get an ID on. I really do appreciate everyone's input. If I can find out what aftermarket manufacturer would have stamped the coin with a G, that would likely solve the mystery. I'll keep digging.

I kept manipulating my search and came up with a picture of one on a web site.

I bought one of these at a coin show a few years back. He was selling it for just a tad above melt
and I was silver shopping that day. I feel it is genuine silver.

I will try and remember to grab mine from my bank box next time I go and take a picture.
But it's too cold to go there in the next couple of days. I'm staying in!
