A variant on the normal temple type denarius of Louis the Pious. A coin I purchased last year from France.
Obv: temple/ XPISTIANA RELIGIO
Rev: cross with in stead of 4 pearls, 4 diamonds in a wreath/+ HLVDOVVICVS IMP
Material: silver
Diameter): 18
Mass: 1,23 gram

Neat coin, Tim. Thanks for sharing. Interesting rendition of the "MP" at 11:00 and the "H" at 1:00, which certainly looks like an "N." I would have had a difficult time figuring those out if you did not provide the inscription in your post. Are these versions of those letters normal/typical for this issue, or unusual?

Thanks Bob, Normally the letters M, H, L & V are a little different on coins from this period. I will post some examples of this today.

Furthermore, the XPISTIANA RELIGIO type has most of the time a standard legend, therefore reading them is not that difficult.

A serie of Letters on Carolingian coins. The S is sometimes on it's side, instead of standing.
The H & the M are written as two II, sometimes with a bar in between or nothing at all
