My guess is this is a VLDS....and not simple wear.
The Obv. looks VLDS to me and the Rev. looks a little better except for the center section.
What are your thoughts on the grade and wear or good old VLDS?

MS65, not a FB strike. The dies have wear -- flowlines are evident, along with die polishing marks in the fields and around the date area -- but this is not a VLDS IMO since I don't see trails, cracks, Cuds, chips, rust, or much of the mushy puffiness associated with subsidence; perhaps a little at the center.

It is a nice, attractive Merc.

ms63-64. Looks like this may have been struck with a defaced die. The left reverse field has a large X with a long vertical line running through it. It looks raised and it doesn't look like a die crack. It looks like the die may have been intentionally scratched.

Paralyse, thanks for the info. The lack of a nose bridge and the polish lines I was assuming it's close to end of life for that die...so I'm guessing many more coins were made with this die.

Numismatic Student, nice catch, I will look at the area further and let you know. I will see if I can get a better picture of that area.

LDS but not VLDS in my opinion. The obverse has been polished down most evident on the nose profile in front of the eye and the right leg of the R in Liberty. I have seen examples polished well beyond this with substantial die cracks.
