Eddy,
The original Lincoln Cent design (1909 to 1958) had two shafts of wheat on the reverse; one on either side. In 1959, and through 2008, the design on the reverse has been the Lincoln Memorial building. Next year the mint will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Cent with several reverses depicting the life of Old Abe from childhood through the Civil War. There is much to learn about Lincoln cents.....enjoy!

Eddy,
Here in the USA most collectors refer to them as cents. Pennies are generally thought to be an English or British term. But, in American (and world I suppose) "slang" most people call our one cent coin a "penny".

If I had my choice of the two pictured, though, I'd take the wheatie.

Rainman,
Lol. I wish it were mine. I got the image from PCGS (http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article2999.chtml).

Spedward,
You may also find these interesting. We're getting 4 new cent designs in 2009.

Nice pics of the '09 reverses. One new reverse will be of Lincoln's Washington D.C. years from what I understand. I believe we'll only see one reverse with a log cabin from Kentucky.

Looking forward to it!

of course, the "100th anniversary" will be in the 101st year of issue. I just love these type of inconsistencies. Reminds me of the millenium celebration in 2000 (which was the last year of the previous millenium, not the first of the new).

arthene,
that is not the "Washington DC years" reverse. That is the Illinois State Capitol(fifth Capitol) in Springfield- the site of his arguments before the Illinois Supreme Court, where he served in the state legislature, and where he gave the famous "House Divided" speech that kicked off his run for the Senate against Stephen Douglas in 1858.
