The only thing though is I wouldn't pay this much for this error. I figured I'd share it because it's still interesting. You know how it is these days for eBayers. They go crazy and bid more than what the coin is actually worth.

A split die is definitely more interesting than a simple, run of the mill die crack. I wouldn't pay that much for it, though. I was actually hoping it was less so I could snag it.

However, I'm not convinced it actually is a split die. There's a thing called Bilateral, Radial, Antipodal Die Cracks in which the two cracks do not actually connect in the center. I don't see the connection in the pics.

It could also be a bisecting rim-to-rim die crack. Apparently, it must be greater than 0.5mm in width to be considered a split die (how that's actually calculated, I have no idea).

with you as there's obviously no connection between the 2 Die Cracks, but were getting very close to rim to rim. A couple of strikes later and it turned into one. I have heard of those terms for the different types of Die Cracks actually, but need to do more research on that subject.

Cookiemonster, is there bid shilling going on? That sounds very fishy to me. Bid shilling is illegal and against ebay's policy.

I doubt it. It's more likely the result of proxy bidding. Someone keeps increasing their max bid, but keeps getting automatically outbid by another's max bid.
