It does look to be a 1998 Wide AM!

Too bad about the condition. I've never found one, but I assume when/if I do, it will look way worse!

Now, you have to find a 1999 WAM...

Edit: it may could benefit from a pure acetone soak (at least 24 hours).

Nice find on the WAM. Thousands of coins and none so you are ahead of the game.As Sprutt said a pure acetone soak could not hurt.

98's are the second hardest to find! Now get the easier 2000! Who knows maybe even the toughest, the 99 which most of us are still looking for!
